Stair Parts & Components
Newel Posts
Newel posts anchor the balustrade, giving it rigidity and strength. If the newel post is loose, the rest of the balustrade is loose. Newels are typically placed at the bottom of stairs and at any place where the balustrade turns or changes pitch.
Wide variety of options
Newels are available in a wide variety of styles, sizes, and species. The most common types of newels are Starting/Balcony Newels, Landing/Intersection Newels, and Box Newels.
Handrail
Handrails are connected to newel posts and either travel between the tops of block top newels in Post-to-Post rail systems, or over the top of pin top newels in Over-the-Post rail systems. Most building codes have limits on the width of handrails. However, those limits can vary by jurisdiction.
Wide variety of options
Handrails from Evermark come in a wide variety of profiles, sizes, and construction types. The type of rail construction determines the price range for the rail.
Handrail Fittings
Handrail fittings allow handrails to change direction, change pitch, or to travel across the tops of pin-top newels. Over-the-Post handrail systems require handrail fittings. In some cases, fittings are necessary in Post-to-Post systems.
Important considerations
Handrail fittings are complex to install correctly and some must comply with building codes. Handrail fittings can make or break a stair project, so it’s essential the correct ones are ordered and used.
Balusters
Balusters provide stability and safety to the balustrade. They are made from a variety of materials such as wood, metal, glass, plastic, and concrete. There are literally hundreds of baluster designs, many of which are similar in appearance but with differences in details.
Wide variety of options
Evermark sells wood and metal balusters to complement most any design style. From colonial to contemporary, classic to Craftsman, our balusters appeal to architects, builders, and homeowners.
Treads & Risers
Treads and risers act as support for the walk path up the staircase. Treads are flat surfaces one walks on as they ascend the stair. Risers are the vertical boards that support the front of the tread.
Wide variety of options
Treads can be made from most any material such as wood, stone, or other composite materials. Evermark stocks wood treads in a variety of species and types, for almost any standard residential application.
